Trix Card Game

This trick-taking card game was copyrighted in 1903 by Jas. W. Tavenner and published in 1904 by the Read & White Game Co. of Bloomington, Illinois.

Cards in the deck have two numbers in the middle and the sum of these two numbers is presented in the corner. Some cards in the deck are special cards important for scoring (Trix, Prize, Prize Trix, and Trixie)

Play begins with the dealer shuffling the deck and dealing four cards face down to each player. The remaining cards are placed face down to form a draw pile. The person to the left of the dealer plays a card face up from their hand and then draws a card from the draw pile. The next player plays a card from their hand, which may have a sum greater or less than the sum on the previous card played. After each person has played one card, the winner of the trick is the person playing the highest sum card - who keeps those cards. The person winning the trick sets aside any special scoring cards and then plays a card to begin the next round.

Play continues as above until all cards have been drawn from the pile and all cards in hand have been played. Each person counts their scoring cards and if no one has reached the required 500 points to win the game all cards shuffled together to continue the game.

The game can also be played with partners.
