Love Treasure Hunting? Now you can experience the thrill of a metal detecting rally around your kitchen table. The Detectorists Big Rally captures the excitement, anticipation and unpredictability of a real day’s detecting and turns it into a board game. The aim of The Detectorists Big Rally is simple: become the most successful detectorist at the Rally by uncovering Finds and finishing with the highest score. Choose your route across the fields, swing your detector over Find Spots and use your magnetic spade to unearth hidden Finds. You never know what the next signal will reveal – worthless Grot, a fascinating historical artefact, or the find of a lifetime. It’s metal detecting – in a board game!

Players roll the dice and move their detector along the designated trails between Find Spots. Land on a spot containing a buried Find and use the magnetic spade to lift it from the board and reveal what you have discovered. Finds range in value from 0 to 50 points. Finds worth more than 15 points require a correct answer to a history-based question before they can be collected.

Gambit Cards add the strategic element to the game. A card is drawn at the start of every turn and may either help or hinder a player. Favourable cards can be kept and played strategically, allowing players to choose when to use them for greatest effect, while unfavourable cards must normally be acted on immediately. This gives players opportunities to improve their own position or disrupt their opponents. Meanwhile, the Nighthawk moves around the fields, poaching buried Finds and secretly adding them to the Nighthawk’s Loot Bag. Players build their score by collecting Finds, with additional bonus points available for sets of matching Finds.

Every element of the game has been designed to recreate the ups and downs of real treasure hunting with a metal detector – the anticipation of the next signal, the disappointment of digging up Grot, the excitement of discovering something special, the changing fortunes of a day in the field and even the frustration of a Nighthawk getting to a Find first. Just like real detecting, you never quite know what the next Find Spot will bring.
