Ravelijn is themed around a group of brave knights exploring a dangerous labyrinth to defeat mysterious enemies known as Graffers and ultimately confront a powerful Count. Each knight has unique abilities and a limited number of lives, giving them different strengths as they navigate the maze. Along the way, they uncover colored tiles that may contain bonuses, penalties, or a Graffer to battle. The atmosphere is one of adventure and competition, as the knights both cooperate in defeating threats and compete to emerge as the ultimate hero.

Gameplay is divided into two distinct phases. In the first phase, players move through the labyrinth, fighting Graffers using dice to determine whether attacks succeed. Defeating Graffers earns secret cards with numerical values, while players also try to preserve their remaining life points. Once all Graffers are defeated, players total the values of their collected cards and their remaining lives. The player with the lowest score becomes the Count for the second phase, while the others remain knights.

In the second phase, the board is flipped to reveal a battle arena where the knights confront the Count. The scores from the first phase now determine each knight’s life points, and special abilities are no longer used. Knights take turns moving and attacking the Count to earn battle tokens, while the Count moves and strikes back with stronger attacks. The game ends when either the Count defeats all knights or the knights defeat the Count.

To win the game, either the Count must eliminate all opposing knights, or the knights must work to defeat the Count. If the knights are victorious, the individual knight with the most battle tokens is declared the winner, making both survival and successful attacks crucial to achieving victory.
