Polypods are imaginary creatures that have poisonous core body segments that tie together their numerous feet. Their life depends on their having at least as many feet as body parts.

The game of Polypods is an abstract game based on these creatures that is played on the intersections a Snub-square grid board.
As the polypods grow or shrink, the roles of their individual stones change accordingly.

The players use Green and White discs respectively. The discs can be marked or stacked to help keep track of which disc are feet and which are core body parts.

The goal of the game is to have the most body parts in play when both players have passed consecutively.

Definitions:
-- A POLYPOD is a group of interconnected discs. The group includes every disc of the same color that is connected to it. Each stone in a polypod has one of two roles: Core or Foot.

-- FEET are discs that either:
1. are adjacent to fewer than 2 friendly discs, or

2. are adjacent to exactly 2 friendly discs and those discs are also adjacent to each other.

• CORE are discs that serve to link all the polypod feet together.
• When a Foot comes in contact with an oppositely colored core, it DISSOLVES (i.e. is immediately removed from the board)
• A polypod is ALIVE if it has at least as many feet as core discs. If the number of feet is reduced below this level, it DIES.
• When a Polypod DIES, its core discs are fully removed, and its remaining feet 'petrify', creating unplayable locations that are marked with stones or 'X's.

Rules:
The board starts empty and Green starts. Turns Alternate.

The moving player, either passes, or does as much of the following sequence of actions, as possible:

1. The mover places a disc on an empty space.

• The placement must not be next to an ememy core disc, as that would cause the immediate removal of the placed disc.
• The placement may add to or merge friendy polypods, AS LONG AS the resulting polypod remains alive.

2. A marker is added to any discs that become core due to the placement.

3. The mover removes all of the opponent's 'dissolved' feet.
4. The marker is removed from any adjacent core disc that needs to revert to being a foot.

5. If the opponent's polypod(s) is now no longer alive, all of its core discs are removed, but its feet are 'petrified'.

The game ends when the players pass consecutively.

The winner is determined by tallying the value of each player's polypods. The value of a polypod is the number of core discs that it contains.

If tied, score all the empty spaces adjacent only to the players' own polypods.
If this count is also equal, the game is considered a draw.
