In this game, you first build your hand in real time, and then later play either Monopoly or Trick-Taking with the hand you've built.

During the first half of the hand-building phase, players take cards one by one from the face-down center of the table in real time, adding them to their hand if necessary, or returning them face-down to the center if not. When a player adds a STOP card to their hand, they declare STOP and temporarily halt the collection of cards. Each player checks their collected cards and votes using a voting card whether they want to play Monopoly or trick-taking. The voting card is then collected and one card is drawn at random, and the second half of the game phase is played according to the written rules. The hand-building phase resumes, and players continue collecting cards until one player has 13 cards. Players who have not reached 13 cards can continue to collect cards face-down to make up to 13 cards.

The criteria for collecting cards in your hand are set so that in Daifugo you want to get rid of all your cards, so you want to collect large numbers, while in Trick-Taking you lose points if you win, so you want to collect as small numbers as possible.

Two types of special cards also add a touch of difficulty to the players.
