Introduction:Herfor (from Old Norse: herfǫr, meaning "war expedition") is a drawless territorial game for two players: Black and White. It is played on the intersections (points) of an initially empty hexagonal board with triangles. It can be played on a 7–sized board for long games or on a 5–sized board for short games. Each player has a sufficient supply of identical stones, each with one color on the front and the other on the back.

Definitions:
A phalanx is a maximal set of stones of the same color connected in a straight line. A single stone is also a phalanx.
The length of a phalanx is the number of stones it contains.
An invading phalanx is a phalanx that, when formed or extended by the placement of a stone, is positioned between two enemy phalanxes aligned in the same straight line, occupying all the empty points between them. The corresponding enemy phalanxes are called invaded phalanxes.
To flip is to replace a stone with one of the opposite color.
The button is a piece off the board worth half a point and is awarded to the opponent of the first player to pass his turn to keep.

Turns:Black plays first and players alternate. On your turn, perform the following actions in order:

Place a stone of your color on an empty point not adjacent to friendly phalanxes, unless you use it to form a phalanx aligned between two enemy phalanxes, even if there are other friendly phalanxes between the enemy phalanxes.
Flip all stones in each pair of invaded phalanxes corresponding to the invading phalanxes you form with the placed stone.

If you cannot perform any of the above actions, you must pass your turn; otherwise, passing is not allowed.

End of the game:The game ends when both players pass their turns consecutively. The player with the most stones of their color on the board at the end of the game is the winner.

To balance the game, before starting, the first player places a black stone on an empty point and the second player chooses a side. This balancing method is called the pie rule.

Simple variant:The same rules, except that instead of flipping all the stones of the invaded phalanxes, flip only a number N of stones from each, where N is equal to the length of the shortest invaded phalanx. The flipped stones must be the ones closest to the invading phalanx.
