Clanimals is a trick-taking card game where rule-breaking creatures bend the conventions of traditional play.

Instead of suits like hearts and spades, players compete to win tricks using four animal clans: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles & Amphibians, and Ocean creatures. Each clan includes 20 unique cards, led by a dominant King of Beasts and supported by three Apex Beasts—powerful cards that can break the usual rules of trick-taking.

Clanimals is played with 3–6 players. With 4 or 6 players, players form two-person teams; with 3 or 5, everyone plays solo. Each player is dealt 13 cards, and a card is flipped to determine the trump clan. Players bid how many tricks they expect to win, aiming to hit their bid exactly while preventing their opponents from doing the same.

But in Clanimals, several unique elements require both strategy and adaptability to hit your bid.
Trump changes every hand.
Not all cards are dealt—so you’re never certain what’s in play.
King of Beasts cards don’t have to follow suit, so there’s always a chance one is lurking, ready to snatch your trick.

Apex Beasts can also be played anytime, and they carry bonus points if captured, adding another layer of risk and reward.

Tricks are won by the highest card of the clan led or the highest trump played. After each hand, players score based on how closely they matched their bid, with bonuses for precision and penalties for falling short.

For players who want more variety, Clanimals includes optional expansion sets:
Insects, which modify cards, tricks, or entire hands

Beastmasters, which grant special abilities to the rotating dealer.

The game ends when a team reaches 500 points or an individual player reaches 300.

Players familiar with trick-taking games will find the foundational mechanics of Clanimals familiar. But on that foundation, Clanimals is designed to have layers of wild, chaos-making evolutions. Making every trick a battle for survival, and every player both predator and prey.
