Civil War Board Games #1: The Civil War Begins game is set during the American Civil War. It's a 2 player game where players are attempting to capture 3 enemy spaces on the board. They do this by rolling the dice and adding or removing counters to the board. When they add counters to a troop icon they are able to "fight" the other player's spaces by using Rock,Paper,Scissors' as a determiner of who wins the round.

Background/Context: During the Civil War, women played vital roles both on the home front and directly on the battlefield. With men leaving to fight, women took over responsibilities traditionally considered masculine, such as managing farms, businesses, and even operating as spies for both the Union and Confederate forces. In this game it allows players to fight for control of the United States and also see how women had to help out in the men's old jobs.

Objective:

When a player adds 3 counters to 3 separate enemy spaces, they win.
OR, when one player has beaten all the other player’s troops.

Gameplay
Instructions - Setup

Union – place a blue counter on all of your icon spaces. Place 5-10 blue counters in your stockpile icons.
Confederate – place a red counter on all of your icon spaces. Place 5-10 blue counters in your stockpile icons.

Instructions – Gameplay

Each player rolls the dice and follows the instructions for each number, listed on the gameboard.

Extra Gameplay Notes

Players have extra counters they add to the game from their stockpile.
When a player rolls the number 1 or 2, they remove a counter from the other player’s side, and give it back to the

enemy’s stockpile.

When a player rolls the number 3 or 4, they take a counter from their own stockpile.
When a player rolls a 5 or 6, they do NOT take the counter from their stockpile. They must use a counter already on

the board to capture an empty enemy tile.

When a player rolls a 6, they must have a counter on the troop to fight. They need to play ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ to remove the other player’s counter and replace it with their own. The winning player must move its own troop into the enemy territory. (It does not get an extra counter to replace the icon it moved from).
Red and blue counters cannot occupy the same space, unless you roll a 6 and are in the middle of a ‘Rock, Paper,

Scissors’ fight. Variations

Players can choose to play the game where you are able to stack counters.
Players can vary the amount of counters they begin with on their board.

Play the game where the players do not put the ‘taken’ counters back into their stockpile.
