Bourbon Kings is a thematic journey into the world of bourbon distilling. As the head of a new distillery, you are ready to make your mark in the modern bourbon boom. To do this, you must create the most prestigious and sought-after spirits, starting with a family recipe, offering a unique strategic advantage. Carefully manage your grain and water resources, invest in new equipment, distill unique batches, and patiently age your whiskey to perfection in charred oak barrels. Your dream is to build a lasting legacy and earn the coveted title of Bourbon King.

The main game is a competitive, "Euro-style" engine-builder played in two acts. In Act I, players build a tableau of "Facility" cards and gather resources (grains, yeast) to create bourbon "mash," add their house yeast, and distill and barrel their spirit in their aging rickhouse. Act II, players cash in "Angel's Share" earned from aging their barrels to obtain scoring and other bonuses for their aging barrels. The game's unique hook is the Flavor Wheel: each barrel contains a stack of tokens that determines its specific flavor profile (e.g., "Spicy," "Fruity," "Woody") that you must match to shifting market trends. The goal is to build the most prestigious distillery by accumulating the most victory points.

The box also includes a complete second game: "The Tasting Room." This social mode flips all the components to become a companion for a real-world bourbon tasting. Using their "Taster's Notebook" board, players will either cooperatively try to guess the flavor notes of a known bourbon (Deduction Mode) or competitively deduce the identity of a mystery bottle from a "suspect list" (Mystery Mode). The goal is to have fun, learn about bourbon, and (in competitive mode) be the first to solve the mystery.
