Banner Blood is a semi-cooperative candlepunk fantasy adventure game set in a dangerous fictional world where powerful technologies are fueled by your blood. Blood acts as both your health and the fuel for an equipment set that gets completely chosen by the player. The world is hostile, with each province in play chosen by a different player.

Gameplay is simultaneous. Each round, players move across the modular world to each resolve a random individual quest while drawing Journey cards. Each Journey is either an event, resolved by using innate abilities on equipped devices, or combat where you must strategically allocate blood cubes to your devices to attack enemy groups. Meanwhile, each quest introduces a terrible World Event that adds obstacles to the map for all players.

Although players must ultimately work together to defeat a Final Boss, real victory is not shared. Throughout the game, players collect banners by achieving feats to build individual notoriety. When the Final Boss is defeated, the heroes return to the capital for a Hero Ceremony where banners determine which adventurer is awarded the Banner Medal and declared the true hero in a performance by the other players.

Banner Blood emphasizes shared danger, asymmetric goals, and dynamic load-out choices, creating a tense experience where cooperation is suggested, selfishness is constant, and player choice merged with random events create a unique experience each session.
