南征北战：山东，1947 ("Fighting North and South: Shandong, 1947") is a two-player strategic-level wargame set in the Jiangsu (苏) and Shandong (鲁) theater from late January to late July 1947, during the second Chinese Civil War. It includes three scenarios:
Scenario I: "Battle of Southern Shandong" (鲁南决战) – Covers the battles of Baitabu (白塔埠) and Laiwu (莱芜). The Battle of Laiwu was adapted into the classic 1952 black-and-white film Fighting North and South (南征北战).
Scenario II: "Decisive Battle in Central Shandong" (鲁中会战) – Includes the battles of Tai'an–Mengyin (泰蒙) and Menglianggu (孟良崮).

Scenario III: "July Divided Operations" (七月分兵) – Covers the battles of Nanma (南麻) and Linqu (临朐).

Together, these three scenarios illustrate the shifting strategic balance between the Kuomintang and the Communist forces on the Jiangsu-Shandong battlefield. In August 1947, the main force of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army (晋冀鲁豫野战军) broke out from southwestern Shandong and advanced into the Dabie Mountains (大别山). Shortly thereafter, Chen Yi (陈毅) and Su Yu (粟裕) led the Western Army of the East China Field Army (华野西兵团) out of Shandong and into the Central Plains(中原), while Xu Shiyou (许世友) and Tan Zhenlin (谭震林) commanded the Eastern Army of the East China Field Army(华野东兵团) as they held their ground in Jiaodong (胶东)—marking a new chapter on the Jiangsu-Shandong battlefield.

The player commanding the Communist forces takes on the role of Chen Yi and Su Yu. Depending on the scenario, the Nationalist player assumes the role of Chen Cheng (陳誠) in Scenario I, Ku Chu-tung (顧祝同) in Scenario II, or Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) in Scenario III.

Most units are at the corps level, with a few at the division or brigade level.
