Escaped animals are hiding around the zoo, and players must search through different habitats to bring them back to the right areas. Desert, polar, tropical, and grassland zones each require specific animals, but searching too greedily may cause animals to flee before they can be collected. The player who organizes the most valuable completed zoo areas becomes the best rescuer of the runaway animals.

Zoo Mikke is a set collection card game in which players reveal animal cards from a shared search deck, trying to collect the animals needed to complete four habitat areas: desert, polar, tropical, and grassland. During the search phase, cards are revealed one by one, butt if the same number appears twice, the search busts and ends immediately. Unclaimed animal cards can remain in a discovery zone, giving later players a chance to take one after searching. Players then place collected animal cards into their own habitat areas, following placement restrictions: animals must match the area color/type and must be placed in ascending numerical order, with some special cards modifying placement or scoring. Completed areas score points, and medal cards provide bonus scoring; the player with the highest total score wins.
