Welcome to Yangste Incident a solitaire naval wargame that places you in command of HMS Amethyst during her time trapped on the Yangtse River and her escape to Shanghai in 1949.

In this solitaire game, you assume the role of the commanding officer of HMS Amethyst. You will lead the ship’s company as you recover from the initial damage and grounding, attempt repairs and other preparations for a breakout, and then command the ship as she makes her escape to Shanghai and safety.

The game comprises three distinct phases.

In Phase 1 the effects of the initial Chinese bombardment are resolved, establishing the starting conditions for the rest of the game.

Phase 2 sees you preparing the ship for breakout, perhaps recovering injured crew or receiving replacements thanks to the RAF, repairing damaged weapons and the ship’s engines, obtaining extra fuel from reserves at Nanking,

Phase 3 is the critical phase of the game, where you attempt to break out to Shanghai and safety, running the Chinese batteries and forts, and negotiating a treacherous boom across the river. Victory is by no means assured as the batteries pose a real threat, and Amathyst may succumb to gunfire and grounding damage.
