Angol leírás

WordFlow Crossword Puzzle

WordFlow is a wooden word game where crosswords, jigsaw puzzling, arrow paths and Scrabble-style scoring meet. Players place letter and bigram puzzle pieces to create flowing words across a growing board or within a puzzle frame.

Object of the Game

Score the most points by placing wooden letter and bigram pieces so that words follow connected arrows. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
Words may flow right, down, or in a right/down zigzag, but every letter connection must follow the arrows printed on the pieces.

Components

• 4 blank corner tiles
• 48 edge (single) letter tiles

• 144 inner letter tiles (single letters and bigrams)
• Dry erase marker and scorecards.

Letter tiles have points and directional connection arrows.

Tile Structure

Each letter or bigram piece includes:
• a single letter, such as A, T, or R

• a bigram, such as TH, ER, or IN
• a point value
• zero, one or two arrows showing word direction.

Tiles without arrows are ends of words.

Game Play Options

WordFlow may be played in one of two modes:
• Turn-Based Play

• Simultaneous Play
Choose one mode before the game begins.

In addition, choose one of two puzzle layouts:
• Constrained Puzzle

• Free Form Puzzle

Turn-Based Play

Turn-Based Play is slower, more strategic, and more controlled.
On your turn:

1. Draw one tile.
2. Place one tile legally into the puzzle.
3. Announce and score any valid word or words created by that placement.
4. Refill your hand to 3 tiles.

5. Play passes to the next player.
Turn-Based Play is best for players who enjoy careful planning and less frantic game play.

Simultaneous Play

Simultaneous Play is faster, livelier, and more frantic.
All players play at the same time.
1. Each player draws tiles from the shared pile.
2. Players place tiles into the puzzle as soon as they spot a legal placement.
3. When a player creates a valid word, they call it out and score it.
4. Players continue placing and scoring until the puzzle is complete or no tiles remain.
For a less chaotic version, players may agree that each player may hold only 3 tiles at a time.

Setup

Give each player a score card. Choose one of these two layouts:
• Constrained Puzzle

• Free Form Puzzle

1. Constrained (Framed) Puzzle
In Constrained Puzzle mode, players build inside a fixed puzzle frame.
Setup

1. Choose a frame size, such as 10x10 or 14x12.
2. Build the outside frame using edge pieces.
3. Place blank corner pieces in the four corners.
4. Set aside any remaining edge pieces.
5. Shuffle the inner pieces face down.
6. Each player draws a starting hand of 3 inner pieces.

Important Rule

Only inner pieces are placed during the game. The frame is built before play begins and remains intact.

Game End

The game ends when the frame is completely. The winner has the highest score.

2. Free Form Puzzle

In Free Form Puzzle layout, the puzzle grows outward from the top left starting corner.
Setup

1. Place the matching corner piece as the top-left corner.
2. Build a short starting frame using outside three to five edge pieces.
Example: 5 edge pieces across the top row and 5 edge pieces down the left side.
3. Shuffle all remaining pieces together, including inner pieces and remaining edge pieces.
4. Each player draws a starting hand of 3 pieces.

Important Rule

Players may place inner pieces, edge pieces and even corner pieces as needed.
All outside edges of the growing puzzle must be made from proper edge pieces. Edge pieces must have their straight edge facing outward.

Game End

The game ends when no tiles remain and all pieces have been legally placed, or when no further legal placement is possible.

Tile Placement Rules

These rules apply to both setup modes.
• Pieces must connect physically using matching jigsaw tabs.
• All pieces must be placed in the correct orientation.
• A newly placed piece must connect to at least one existing piece.
• Edge pieces must have their straight edge facing the outside of the puzzle.
• Corner pieces may only be used as corners.
• Inner pieces may not be placed on the outside edge.

Once a tile is placed, if you spot a word, call it out and adds its value on your score card.

Valid Word Paths

A word is valid only if it follows a continuous arrow path.
Words may travel:

• right/east
• down/south
• in a zigzag using only right and down movement.

Words may not travel left or upward. A word must contain at least three letters. Bigrams count as two letters but occupy one wooden piece.
Adjacency alone is not enough to claim a word. A letters in your word must follow arrows from tile to tile.

Scoring

When you place a piece, score every new valid word created by that placement. Total the points within the tiles used.
If one placement creates more than one word, score every new word.
Optional bonus: If one placement creates three or more valid words, double your score!

Making More Than One Word

A single tile placement may create more than one valid word.
One placed tile may complete one to three words.
Score every new valid word created by that placement.

Missed Word Rule

Players must announce the words they score.
If a player places a tile but misses a valid word created by that placement, an opponent may call out the missed word and score it.
In Turn-Based Play, opponents may claim a missed word before the next player places a tile.
In Simultaneous Play, opponents may claim a missed word as soon as they spot it, as long as the word was created by the most recent placement and has not already been scored.

Optional Courtesy Rule

For younger players or casual family play, missed words may simply be pointed out and awarded to the player who placed the tile.

For competitive play, missed words belong to the opponent who spots them first.

Challenge Rule
If a player forms a questionable word, another player may challenge it before the next turn begins.
If the word is valid, it stays and scores.

If the word is not valid the player scores zero for that turn.

Winning
At the end of the game, total each player’s score.
The player with the highest score wins.
In case of a tie, the tied player who created the highest-scoring single word wins.

Optional Solo Mode

Build a 10x10 starting puzzle frame, draw 5 pieces and try to create the highest-scoring WordFlow puzzle before the pieces run out.
Suggested solo challenge levels:

• Bronze: 50 points
• Silver: 100 points
• Gold: 150 points
• Master: 200+ points

Optional Cooperative Mode

Instead of competing, players may work together to fill the puzzle with as many valid flowing words as possible.
Score the finished board as a group and try to beat your previous total.
