It is the dawn of the 22nd century, and humans have exploited a poorly understood phenomenon to propel their ships to a growing number of star systems. Traveling to uncharted systems using a barely understood “warp” technology is risky, but also seductive. The expanding frontier is ripe with opportunity…for some, it’s an opportunity for a new life or a promise of adventure. Others lust after simple profit, exploiting the untold resources of the galaxy in a pattern as old as the human race. The Independent Survey Vessel Faraway plies the far reaches of human space, searching for the next big breakthrough. Conveniently, the ship’s course takes it far from the watchful eye of Federation regulatory agencies, making it an ideal place for the ethically flexible to test out new theories and technologies. In particular, the team aboard the Faraway hopes to learn more about the inter-dimensional space starships use to travel long distances. Many refer to it as hyperspace or warp space, but to those who have traveled there and returned, it has another name: the Void. Scientists aboard the Faraway believe that the Void, as its name suggests, is a realm of never-ending nothingness, and that by applying theoretical techniques in quantum manipulation, the emptiness of the void can be filled by expanding human consciousness. Step one is finding a human consciousness to expose to the ravages of the void. But the dark corners of the frontier are full of experimental subjects, and the scientists aboard the Faraway really don’t care where they come from. The possibility of expanding a human mind with the capacity of an infinite space orthogonal to our own universe is beyond any petty ethical considerations. The results of the work would redefine the evolution of the human race, and lead to power and wealth unheard of in human history. There’s just one small problem; the Void isn’t empty after all. There’s something out there, and the Faraway just invited it in…

Void Demon is intended as a rules lite, thematic, purpose designed solitaire/cooperative sci-fi horror board game. The game is intended to provide a low bar to entry, be completed in 1-2 hours, but still provide an entertaining experience with decent replayability.
