Game Overview
Unblocking is a social, condition-based knowledge game where players score points by selecting answers that satisfy a condition, rather than answering traditional questions.
Unlike trivia or quiz games, Unblocking does not ask “What is the correct answer?”
Instead, it asks:
“Choose something that fulfills this condition.”
The tension of the game happens before the answer is given, as players interpret the condition, assess risk, and decide whether their choice will be accepted by the group.
There is no player elimination.
Mistakes do not remove players from the game—they become part of the social experience.
---
Objective of the Game
Players compete to score the most points by successfully meeting the conditions presented during the game.
The game can end in two official ways:
Primary mode: after 8–10 full rounds
Secondary mode (optional): when a player reaches 100 points
The player with the highest score wins.
---
Core Concept: Conditions Instead of Questions
Each turn is driven by a condition, not a question.
Examples of conditions:
“A country located in Africa”
“An herbivorous animal”
“A chemical element that is alkaline”
“Something that floats”
“A character from mythology”
Players must interpret the condition, choose an answer, and accept the risk of being validated or rejected.
---
Game Setup
1. Each player receives:
1 mini abacus set to zero points
2. Shuffle the VSD Cards and place them face down.
3. Select a starting player to act as the first arbiter.
4. Decide the number of rounds or point limit.
The role of arbiter rotates every turn.
Turn Structure
On a player’s turn:
The current arbiter reveals the top VSD Card, which defines the condition and turn modifiers.
The active player announces a response that they believe satisfies the condition.
The group validates the response:
Using the Answer Validation Sheet
Or by group consensus, with the arbiter having final authority
The VSD Card effect is applied:
Points are awarded if the answer is valid
A secondary effect may apply if the answer is invalid
The player updates their score using the mini abacus.
The arbiter role passes to the next player.
---
VSD Cards (Value & Social Dynamics)
VSD Cards define what happens during a turn.
The deck is structured approximately as follows:
~50% point-value cards (+1 to +5 points)
A small percentage of Pachanga-style cards
The remainder introduce light turn modifiers or social dynamics
Point Values
Valid answers score points as shown on the card.
+ 5 point cards are intentionally rare.
Pachanga-Style Cards
Some VSD Cards include light social micro-activities that trigger only if the player’s answer is invalid.
These activities:
Are brief and non-punitive
Do not eliminate players
Exist to maintain social energy and group engagement
Examples include:
a short verbal challenge
a simple group action
a playful instruction
Errors remain part of the fun, not a punishment.
---
Answer Validation & Arbiter Role
Each turn has an arbiter, responsible for:
Reading the VSD Card
Consulting the Answer Validation Sheet
Making the final decision if disagreement arises
The arbiter role rotates every turn to ensure fairness and shared authority.
Multiple answers may be valid for a single condition.
---
Scoring System
All players track points using their mini abacus
Scores are always visible to all players
Strategy emerges from relative positioning, not hidden information
---
End of the Game
At the end of the final round, or when a player reaches the target score:
All players compare scores
The player with the highest total wins
There are no tiebreakers by elimination; ties may result in shared victory if desired.
---
Replayability & Expansion
The Classic Edition includes 60 VSD Cards, providing high replayability through:
condition variety
interpretation differences
social dynamics
Additional VSD Card sets can be added without modifying the core rules, allowing the system to scale while preserving its structure.
