A retheme of Gold! (2011) by Michael Schacht and Stefano Negro with some rule changes. The main difference is that there are two columns that are on display (only one of which is active at a time).

ペンは剣よりも強し consists of a 60-card deck, with cards in six colors; each color has army cards valued 3-8 and a few quills worth -2. Each player starts the game with a different-colored quill, then a few cards are removed from play, and 2 columns of 5 cards are laid out face-up. The Secret Letter card is placed besides a column. On a turn, a player must do one of the following three actions:

• Take the lowest valued card on display, with quills always being worth less than armies, and add it to their tableau.
• Exchange one army card from his tableau for a lower-valued army card.

• Exchange a quill from his tableau for an army card of any value. When this is done, the Secret Letter card is moved to the other column

Whenever a player collects three cards of the same color, he must Complete the Army and score it and set it aside. First, though, he can pilfer a card (any color not present in his tableau or in the army being completed) from an opponent.

Once the deck runs out and either column is empty, players compare their totals in each of the six colors present in their tableau; whoever has the highest total in a color scores the highest army card of that color. Players then sum the cards in their score piles, and the player with the highest score wins.
