The Age of Rift is a colorful, fast-paced fantasy skirmish game set in a world fractured by a magical energy known as the Shard. Players take control of a team of three unique Heroes—a Tank, a Fighter and a Utility Hero—each with their own abilities and playstyle. Alongside their miniatures, players use a 15-card deck combining Hero-specific cards with equipment, potions and other effects to create synergies and make tactical decisions throughout the game.

During each round, players alternate activating their Heroes, with each Hero able to perform two different actions such as moving, making a ranged attack or channeling. Close combat is resolved simultaneously, with dice results compared to determine who deals more damage. Positioning is especially important: winning a combat can allow a player to push, charge or reposition their opponent, potentially causing them to collide with terrain, suffer falling damage, or even be pushed off the board.

Winning is not simply about eliminating the opposing team. Each game is played through a mission with its own objectives, such as controlling areas, managing objectives or using Familiars to score points. Players must balance combat with positioning, card management and the mission's objectives, adapting their strategy throughout the game. The player who completes the mission's objectives and scores the most points wins.
