In Take Sides, two opposing sides compete for control of six characters placed in the center of the table. A debate has divided the neighborhood, and each side is determined to win over as many people as possible. Players build columns of cards on their side, trying to gain the majority around each character.

On each turn, players play a card by connecting matching colors or numbers. Each card also has a special ability: blocking an opponent, doubling a card's influence, moving cards between columns, playing again, exchanging hands, or taking a card back. These powers can disrupt carefully laid plans and change the balance of power.

When a player can no longer play or draw, the round ends. For each central character, the side with the most cards wins that character and scores points equal to its value. The side with the highest total wins the round, while the losing side receives a Remontada bonus to help them fight back in the next round.

In a three-player game, one player takes on the role of a neutral balancer, playing on either side of the street and scoring points from tied columns.

The first player or team to win two rounds wins the game.
