These days it's not enough to be the toughest crew on the streets; you need to make sure everyone knows it, too. Bring enough cans of spray paint to tag walls all over town, and enough muscle to make sure no one else does. There's nothing quite as satisfying as watching little punks drop their spray cans and run at the very sight of you — just make sure that there isn't someone even bigger right around the corner!

In Tag Team, you play as a crew of Eagles, Bulldogs, Alligators or Gorillas, defending your turf by bluffing your way through battles each day. Players simultaneously reveal their leader characters, and, if nobody backs down, their backup characters join the fight. The winner tags their opponent's territory as a reward. In the end, the crew with the most tagged territory wins.

Rules Summary

Each player has a deck of a gang of animals featuring numbers 1-7 and special abilities. Players choose 1 card to set aside as a tiebreaker. Then players choose two cards, these are the characters going head to head. One is the main and the other is the backup, but they aren't revealed yet.

Both players reveal their main and then, after seeing it, they have a chance to back down. If a player backs down, their opponent gets one prize card. If nobody backs down, then the second card is revealed. The higher combined value wins, after all abilities take effect.

The first player to win two turf battles is the winner!

Advanced Play

Rather than playing to two turf battles, keep a running total of the territories you have marked, even between battles. The first player to mark 25 blocks wins immediately.

If you have 4 teams, you can play Tag Team with 3 or 4 players and can play a diverse crew variant.

3 Players

During setup, give each player one team’s cards. Give the wallet randomly to one player.

If two players retreat, the remaining player takes one card from each of the retreating players. If one player retreats, then the other two rumble and the winner of the rumble takes a card from the retreating player.

If all three players rumble in one encounter (no one retreats), the two players without the wallet rumble first. The loser of that first rumble takes the wallet. Then the winner rumbles with the remaining player. The final winner takes all of the cards from the losers.

If the final rumble of an encounter is an unresolved tie, the tied players take one card each from each other but none from any player who lost a rumble or retreated earlier in the same encounter.

Because only two players are involved in a rumble at once, only those leaders’ abilities are considered when determining the outcome.

4 Players

Each turf battle, you encounter a different crew. The first battle, players one and two battle while players three and four battle. The second battle, players one and three battle while players two and four battle. The third battle, players one and four battle while players two and three battle.

Repeat until one player wins three turf battles and wins the game.

If two players win their third battles at the same time, then those two players play one final battle against each other to determine first and second place, while the other two players play a final battle to determine third and fourth place.

Diverse Crew Variant

During setup, create one facedown pile with all of the 0 cards, one with all of the 1 cards, one with all of the 2 cards, and so on. Shuffle each pile separately, then deal out one card from each pile to each player. Each player should have one card of each number, which is their crew for the entire game. Play the rest of the game as normal.
