Subterra: Rise Against the Dystopia is the final chapter of the dystopian saga that began with Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia. Set in the same world as Euphoria, Subterra is a war game that pits players against one another as they attempt to reduce the once-mighty dystopian empire to rubble.

Each player represents one of the recruits originally seen in the game Euphoria who have risen through the ranks and now command forces of their own as leaders. Players begin the game with a player mat representing that leader and a unique combination of recruit cards comprising their starting deck (unlike many other deckbuilding games, where all players start with the same deck). The recruits are represented on the game board by meeples, thus adding a spatial and interactive element to the deckbuilding mechanism. When a recruit card is played, its actions are tied to a specific meeple on the game board, simulating the concept that players are leaders in command of recruits across the dystopia.

Players can move recruits, use their special abilities, add more recruits (2 recruits from each of the 4 factions are available each game), attack or capture other players' recruits, and learn from recruits to enhance the abilities on your player mat.

Players have to balance the acquisition of points using the existing dystopian infrastructure and the overall goal of destroying the dystopia. Players get the most points for reducing infrastructure (tunnels, markets, recruitment centers, commodity areas) to rubble, so players should avoid giving their opponents the opportunity to do that.
