Players play as rulers, each having a piece on a looping trail. At the beginning of the game they each receive 70 coins, and roll in order to play. There are three types of cards next to the board: property cards (that show the property name, its value and its tax amount), soldier cards (that show the name of the unit, its value and its power rating), and chance cards (that need to be shuffled and put faced down next to the board).
On the board there are properties, soldier barracks and churches. When a player lands on a property, they can purchase it. When a property is purchased, if any other player lands on it, they have to pay the landlord a tax (written on the property card); also if the owner themselves lands on the property, they get that same amount from the treasury. The church tiles are chance tiles, and if a player lands on them they will have to draw from the chance cards. They can gain or lose coins from the chance cards.
The goal of the game is to get soldiers and gather an army. When a player lands on a soldier tile on the trail, if they have the required coin, they can add that soldier to their army.
The game ends when all the properties are sold, and the winner is the person with the most powerful army. The property value and the remaining coins are inconsequential. If the player with the most powerful army owes coins to the treasury or another player, they cannot be the winner and the second most powerful player will be the winner.
The visuals and the art style, as well as soldier units and properties, are themed around the Firefly Studios' 2002 real time strategy game "Stronghold Crusader".
