The rulebook for Star Marshal enables you to play any of the compatible adventures, or Casebooks, as they are known. This starter set includes the core rules along with its inaugural 48-page Casebook adventure.

Star Marshal is set in the far-future in the wake of the Wars of Unreason, a cataclysmic conflict that shattered the human galactic empire. In one of the many desperate bids to curb the ensuing chaos, the Galactic Alliance (GA) established the Star Marshals. Officially, they were agents of order on the frontier; in practice, they were sanctioned executioners with a license to kill.

Today, the Galactic Alliance publicly distances itself from the program, preferring the optics of rehabilitation over frontier justice. Yet, while official recruitment has ceased and budgets have been cut, the Marshals’ authority remains absolute. Funding still flows through back-channels, and the need for law and order on the Outer worlds has never been greater.

You are one of the last members of this elite, fading branch of law enforcement. How you choose to wield your badge is up to you.

Game Objective

The specific objective will be detailed in the casebook that you are playing through. Typically, it will be to accrue 60 arrest points to unlock the final opponents. (Arrest points are obtained via the elimination or capture of criminals during the adventure.)

In almost all cases, you will have the opportunity to dispense justice as you see fit. How firm a Marshal you will be, we leave for you to decide.

Game Play

The game is driven by a deck of cards, which are turned over to reveal what location you are exploring and who, or what, you have encountered whilst there. Often, the cards will also provide you with the option to turn to a page in the casebook, and play through an encounter detailed in there.

Combat and skill checks are resolved through dice rolls.
