The object of this game, as in a stock car race, is to be the first player to complete five laps around the track.
To begin, each player selects a car and lap markers of matching color. The lap markers are put in the center of the board where indicated. Each player then throws the dice. The one with the highest throw puts his car in starting position on the inside lane (lane nearest pit). The player with the next high number puts his car in the next lane, etc., until all cars are in position at the starting line.
First player again throws the dice and moves his car the number of spaces indicated. Each time a player completes a lap, he takes one of his colored markers from the board. Players may, if they wish, move their cars from one lane to another; however, a move to another lane must be made from adjacent squares of the same color. For instance, a player may move his car from a red square in his lane to an adjacent red square in the next lane.
When a player's car stops on one of the spaces indicating mishaps, he must do what the space instructs immediately.
One car may not pass another car in the same line. All passing must be done by changing lanes as explained above. If a player throws a number that allows him to move his car past a car ahead, but it is impossible to do so by changing lanes, the cars are said to collide; they are out of the race.
A lap is completed only when a car has crossed the finish line; then a player may take one of his lap markers from the board, indicating he has completed a lap. The first player to complete five laps is the winner.
