Spaceflight: The Board Game is a competitive worker placement game for 2–4 players set in a procedurally generated galaxy where rival civilizations compete for dominance through political influence, technological advancement, military conflict, and economic development. Each player leads a unique spacefaring power attempting to shape the future of the galaxy.

At the start of every game, a selection of alien civilizations enters the Galactic Council, each providing a powerful worker placement action and its own influence track. Players must decide whether to specialize in a few civilizations for larger rewards or spread their influence across many factions to gather steady victory points. Because the civilizations present in the council change every game, the strategic landscape is constantly evolving.

Players deploy workers to the galaxy board to collect resources, develop technologies, recruit soldiers, and trigger conflicts. Timing and positioning matter: some resources accumulate over time while key spaces offer powerful long-term advantages but attract heavy competition.

Military conflicts are voluntary but highly rewarding. When a conflict is triggered, players secretly commit soldiers in a tense simultaneous bid for tiered rewards. Even those who lose soldiers can still gain resources or technologies, making every conflict a strategic calculation rather than a simple gamble. Technology cards further deepen the system, offering permanent upgrades, political maneuvers, or powerful combat tricks that can be played at critical moments.

Midway through the game, a galactic crisis erupts which permanently alters the rules of the galaxy—reshaping political alliances, forcing mandatory wars, or disrupting the economy-and pushes the game into a dramatic final phase.

Victory is achieved by reaching 10 Victory Points, earned through council influence, conflict rewards, and technological achievements. No single path guarantees success; the most powerful civilizations combine diplomacy, economic planning, and military strength to secure their place at the top of the galaxy.
