Skullport28 is a card-driven skirmish game set in the City of Shadows — the lawless port beneath Waterdeep where Drow, Duergar, and worse compete for contracts in the dark.

The HookCapture > Kill. Dead enemies give you nothing. Captives have value — for ransom, leverage, or settling old scores. The emotional payoff isn't the kill; it's finally getting revenge on that bastard dwarf who left your lieutenant in the Darklake.

Core MechanicBoth players simultaneously reveal one Prep card (black) and one Nerve card (red). Your Execution = MIN(Prep, Nerve) — you need both planning and courage to succeed. Taking damage permanently degrades your Nerve cards, representing your crew's mounting exhaustion and desperation. When a Nerve card hits zero, it becomes a Joker — dead weight clogging your hand. Three Jokers and your crew breaks.

The ToneThis isn't grimdark misery tourism. It's heist-movie energy: schemes, reversals, narrow escapes. Casablanca meets Blade Runner meets your favorite caper film. Everyone's running a scheme, trust is expensive, and violence is just business.

Campaign PlayGrudges carry between games. The only way to improve your models is to settle grudges — capture or kill the specific enemy who wronged you. Ransom negotiations, debt collection, and revenge arcs create emergent narrative.

Writing the ShameWhen a model goes down, you write on a note card how they were shamed — what the enemy said, what they took, how they left your soldier bleeding in the dark. These moments become the seeds for new grudges. The game's best stories come from settling old scores that started as scribbled notes on index cards.
