When the obscure—and rightfully forgotten—Cesarus Julius Ineptum Insanis Obitus usurped the throne, the Empire was at its absolute peak. However, "good old" Cesarus needed only a few months to drag the capital into total ruin, courtesy of his endless parties, bacchanals, and absurd whims.

Desperate at the thought of his lavish lifestyle being threatened, the Emperor hatched a "brilliant" idea to rescue the economy (and his wine cellar): a grand event where every prisoner, slave, and outcast in the empire would compete for their freedom. The rule was simple: whoever brought the most treasure back to the city would win the Imperial Pardon. How would the participants get their hands on those riches? Ah, that's their problem!
And so, RACE TO ROME was born.

In Race to Rome, players take on the roles of Roman outcasts competing in a desperate, high-stakes race to the heart of the empire to earn the Emperor's pardon. To claim victory and secure their freedom, a player must be the first to reach the center of the board (Rome) while carrying at least 10 Resource Points.

Gameplay is driven by a tight action-selection system: on their turn, each player must choose and execute 2 out of 6 available actions. These actions include placing path tiles to build routes, moving their pawn across the board, gathering vital resources, placing obstacles (such as rocks) to disrupt opponents, vistit special board spaces such as the Market to accumulate coins and the Mass Grave to purge unwanted tokens from their supply or activating special character abilities. Managing this 2-action economy every round is essential to maintaining momentum while reacting to ever-changing board states.

The journey toward the capital is packed with direct player interaction and cutthroat opportunism. Each contender commands asymmetric powers—such as Eliana's Flirting Duel, Cloacina's Chaos Ritual, or Robarico's Espionage. Players can steal resources directly, summon Barbarians to ambush opponents, or call upon the Centurion to clear blocked pathways.
