From the Rules:

The object of the game is to win money from other players through the use of word-building skills. You can make money in four ways:
(a) By completing legal words on the word board through placement of letter tiles;
(b) By placing letter tiles which may contribute towards legal words on the word board;
(c) By challenging an opponent who then fails to prove that the letter tiles they placed on the word board can lead to legal words;
(d) By proving to a challenger that the letter tiles you added to the word board can lead to legal words.
