Pizzo is a game for 2-4 players and takes about 60-90 minutes to complete. In the game, players are the Mobsters of Central City. Using money and the needed thugs the players will expand their individual empires.

As blocks are taken over, the Chief of Police is alerted, Players need to be ready when he comes by or bribe the Godfather to intervene on their behalf to have the police look the other way. Locations that are not found exactly kosher, will have guards added.

Block tiles are gained through the use of Thugs cards, which players take to form collections that the player will use, plus money, to add mob bosses to the city streets, pushing out the owners in the process. The first player to take control of six block tiles triggers the final round of the game.

The game is played in clock-wise order continuously until the end of the game. Each player’s turn will consist of 3 phases. The player will take all phases before the next player takes a turn. Not all actions on all phases must be performed when the phase is taken; some actions will be impossible during player turns.

Choose an ability to use then gather Thugs through a card line draft. There are 5 such abilities, most require discarding a thug card for an effect like gaining money or removing guards from tiles recently taken.
Expand their control using the Thugs previously allocated. Using a "run" or "set" in Rummy terms, the players will discard the entire group of cards to takeover the city streets (block tiles). Each type of card grouping allows removal of guards and adding bosses to your control.
Allocate Thugs for various projects. Place thug cards in Rummy style groupings on the player mat in each of the three columns.

Prestige is what wins the game. For each establishment that is brought under the control of the players there is much reward, especially for diversity compared to that of a one-sided view: all activities are important to the Godfather, but too many of one type is not as prestigious as a many facetted organization.
