Saint Nicholas Day is just around the corner. On December 6th, children in Germany and much of Europe put their boots outside the door overnight, hoping to find them filled with sweets in the morning. But Saint Nicholas still has no roof over his head! Be the first to build him a house and let him move in with you. Careful though: every now and then Saint Nicholas has to break wind, and if he is already living at your place while your house is still unfinished, the whole thing comes crashing down.

Every player gets their own "Haus des Nikolaus" board — a nod to the classic German one-stroke drawing puzzle — with ten beam spaces in red, green and yellow, plus a wooden animal that serves as their pet for the round. On your turn you roll the symbol die. Roll a color and you take a wooden beam of that color from the middle and place it on a matching free space on your board. Roll the Saint Nicholas symbol and the wooden figure moves: he comes to live with you, or, if he is already yours, you pass him on to any other player. Roll the card symbol and you flip the top card of the deck and carry out its action. Animal cards reward every player whose pet matches, while characters like the raccoon make players hand beams back to the supply. Flip a Saint Nicholas card and you make the loudest fart noise you can and shout the title of the game: whoever is hosting him at that moment must return one beam of each color and then pass him along. You win the moment your house is complete in the correct colors and the Saint Nicholas figure is standing in front of you.

Three variants let the game grow with its players. The simple version uses a reduced deck of just eight cards with two easy actions and needs no reading at all. The standard version uses the full deck of 33 cards. In the tricky version the house must be built in one continuous sequence, following the numbers and arrows on the board in the exact order you would draw the house in a single stroke. Beams lost to a card have to be replaced from the lowest gap upwards before you may continue.
