Divide the eighteen cards into the two sets, distinguished by the colour borders, and give one to each player. The players shuffle their nine cards, then lay them out in front of them in a pyramid shape.

The players take it in turns to throw 5 dice, and group these dice into either odd numbers or even numbers. They use the odd numbers to light their own shrines, and the even numbers to douse their opponents shrines.

To be fully lit, a shrine card must be lit eight times, at which point it is turned over and cannot be doused. When a player's shrine is doused the card is turned back to the next lowest number.

The top shrine cannot be lit higher than the number of fully lit shrines below it, so is always the last shrine lit.
