In Murdoch Mysteries: The Board Game, one player takes on the role of a cunning Villain, secretly moving through turn-of-the-century Toronto while the other players work together as Heroes to track them down. Over a maximum of 10 rounds, the Villain uses Movement and Chaos cards to stay one step ahead while pursuing a secret objective.

Each round, the Heroes follow the trail across the city, travelling by different forms of transport and using their unique character abilities, Invention cards, and Helper cards to uncover information, increase their Strength, and close in on the Villain. After the Heroes have acted, the Villain reveals the total Strength of any Heroes at their secret location, providing crucial information as the investigation progresses through three escalating Acts.

To win, the Heroes must piece together the Villain's movements, corner them with increasingly greater Strength, and make the Final Arrest during Act 3 before the end of the tenth round. The Villain wins by completing their secret objective or staying one step ahead of the Heroes long enough to escape justice. Follow the clues, anticipate your opponent, and see if you can bring the case to a close before time runs out.
