Each player pays a few game tokens to receive 3 birds of the same color, which they will use to play. The progression of the game is determined by a die featuring the same colors as those found on the game board. The game begins at the lowest spaces, which are marked with black dots in their centers.

Each player rolls the die three times in succession; after each roll, they place one of their birds on a starting space that matches the color rolled. If a space is already occupied by another player’s bird, that bird is removed (sent back to the start), and the current player’s bird takes its place. Once a player has placed all 3 of their birds on the board, they may begin moving them. Pieces are moved along the black lines—forward (straight or diagonally) or sideways. Moving backward is not permitted (with the exception of the final move into the finish area).
In each turn, a player rolls the die three times. After each roll, they must move one of their birds—chosen at their discretion—to an adjacent space that matches the color rolled. If a roll cannot be executed, it still counts as a turn.
Throughout the game, a player may also remove an opponent’s piece if they have no other legal move available. Any piece that is removed must return to the very beginning; the player cannot move any other pieces until the removed piece has been brought back into play.

The first player to reach the finish area, known as "Mona," with one of their pieces wins the game and claims the pot.

The game was likely published about 1887, after the author moved to Germany.
