Le Dernier Verset uses the principles of the casino game Blackjack, adapting it to the needs of a solo card game.

You play a series of 10 duels during which you face off in a best-of-three round against an element of your past with which you are uneasy, instead of the classic casino dealer. These painful passages in your life are called Verses; there are 20 in the game, and for each duel, you must draw two and choose one.

You're not betting money, but the remaining fragments of your soul, and you'll have to try to recover as many as possible as you progress through the game if you want to achieve some form of redemption. Your game ends immediately if you run out of souls, at any time EXCEPT during a final bet. You are allowed to bet if you have 1 soul left. Otherwise, the number of remaining souls at the end of the game determines your success.
