The year is 1378. Europe is on the verge of chaos. The Emperor is dead and storm clouds gather over the Holy Roman Empire. Ambitious princes across Germany and Italy plot to seize power for themselves. At stake is the fate of Europe for centuries to come.

In Grey Eminence: Heart of Europe players relive the epic struggle for power in late-Medieval Central Europe. In the sprawling Holy Roman Empire, which spanned today’s Germany, the Netherlands, Czechia and Northern Italy, hundreds of states competed against each other for territory and influence. While all were nominally vassals of the Emperor, in reality they all served their own interests. In 1378, when the crown fell to a young boy, chaos and war ensued.

Each player takes control of a distinct country within the Holy Roman Empire, vying for influence and prestige. During the game, you will send your emissaries to provinces across Central Europe on missions of diplomacy, intrigue, military, development and religion. Since every country’s starting position is unique, the path to victory will look different every time - but it will always require strategic cunning, timely betrayals and at least a little bit of bloodshed.

Uniquely Replayable Setup

Play as any one of 8 countries within the Holy Roman Empire: Austria, Bohemia, Brandenburg, Burgundy, Holland, Milan, the Palatinate of the Rhine and Saxony.
Each country starts in a unique position on the map, with different resources and capabilities.
Choose a political role at the start of the game: Chancellor, Marshal, Cardinal, Steward or Spymaster.
Start each game with a unique deck depending on your country and role.

Fast-paced & Innovative Strategic Gameplay
Take turns sending out your emissaries on missions of diplomacy, intrigue, military, development or religion.
Progressive turn order ensures minimal downtime and fast-paced gameplay with plenty of opportunities for reaction.
Each type of mission has a unique card back, so at all times you will have an idea of what your opponents are planning - as will they about you. Spies are everywhere.
Interact with other players through various cards, roles & locations to bribe, cheat or force your way into victory.

Multiple Thrilling Win Conditions
Maintain the balance of power and win by amassing the most prestige (victory points).
Win a sudden death victory by securing control over 4 of the 7 electoral provinces.
Betray the Empire and assist France or Hungary in dominating Europe - become the final boss, but make everyone your enemy.

Grey Eminence: Heart of Europe combines deck-building with card-driven worker placement. The game is played over up to 10 rounds, with each player taking turns to send out one of their emissaries by playing a card from their hand. Cards and provinces allow players to perform a variety of actions to expand their influence and conquer new lands for victory points. Securing 4 of the 7 electors is one path to victory, as is assisting France or Hungary in taking over the Holy Roman Empire. Otherwise, the player with the most victory points at the end of the final round is declared winner.
