Friends with Beverages is a light strategy card game where each player hosts an international gathering and tries to serve custom liqueurs to their invited guests. Each Guest card represents a Guest from a specific country, showing their fictional signature drink, the ingredients and equipment needed to make it, and the victory points that drink is worth. Players draw and manage Resource cards to collect ingredients and install equipment, while the guest list remains fluid as new potential friends appear in the central Guest Market and old guests sometimes cancel unexpectedly.

On a turn, players spend “draw points” to take cards either blind from the Resource deck or face-up from the shared Resource Market, balancing quick card draw against grabbing powerful but more expensive equipment. Matching sets of resource or equipment cards can then be discarded to swap out one of your personal Guests with another from the Guest Market or from the top of the Guest deck, allowing players to chase recipes that better fit their current collection. Installed equipment stays in front of a player and can be reused across multiple drinks, but hand size is limited, forcing constant decisions about which ingredients and tools to keep or let go.

Once a player has the full set of required ingredient cards in hand and the necessary equipment installed in their “shed,” they can complete that Guest’s drink recipe, discarding the ingredients and turning the Guest card to show it has been served. Players may finish multiple recipes in a single turn if they can afford the costs, after which the markets are refreshed to reveal new opportunities. Recipes do not score immediately, so timing which guests to serve and when to pivot to a different recipe is a key part of the tactical puzzle.

Throughout the game, Interrupt and Event cards periodically shake things up by refreshing markets, cancelling guests, stealing or recalling equipment, or temporarily making swaps cheaper, rewarding players who stay flexible rather than locking into a single plan. The game ends when a player completes their third recipe in the standard game (or fourth in the advanced variant), or when the Guest deck runs out. At that point, the player with the highest total points from completed liqueur recipes wins, with simple nose-size-based tiebreakers providing a final bit of party-table humour.
