Introduction:Fiodar (from Old Irish: Fhíodair, meaning "weaver") is a drawless game for two players: Black and White. It is played on the intersections (points) of an initially empty hexagonal board with triangles. The recommended board size is 7 points per side, but smaller boards can be used for shorter games. Each player has access to a sufficient supply of stones of their own color.
Definitions:– A thread is a set of connected stones of the same color in a straight line. A single stone is also a thread.
– A weave is a set of connected threads of the same color. A single thread is also a weave.
– A cut is a configuration in which two friendly stones are on both sides of a single thread of a weave, crossing it with an imaginary straight line along the line of the thread.
– A cut weave is a weave where each stone it contains is part of at least one cut thread.
– A territory is one or more connected empty points. You own a territory if all the stones connected to it are of your color.
Turns:Black plays first and then turns alternate. On your turn, perform one of the following actions:
– Place a stone of your color on an empty point, then remove all cut enemy weaves from the board. At the end of your turn, there must be no cut friendly weaves left, unless enemy weaves left cut. After this action, the board position must be different from the board positions at the end of all your previous turns.
– Pass your turn.
End of the Game:The game ends when both players pass their turn consecutively. At the end of the game, points are counted by adding friendly territory and captured enemy stones, plus awarding half an extra point to the player who passed their turn first.
To make the game fair, before it starts, the first player places a black and a white stone on any empty point on the board, and then the second player chooses the sides. This balancing method is called 2-stone pie rule.
