All is not well in the quiet village of Shadowsfall. The crops are failing, diseases are spreading, people are disappearing, and things of a strange nature are happening with growing regularity. With fear and suspicion a ripe the villagers have called for ‘The witch hunter’.

Meanwhile, there is turmoil among the Council of Witches, The High Witch is dead and now the Witches are fighting amongst themselves for the right to succeed her. But only the most powerful witches can ascend to such a high status. Can you gather a coven to take the title for yourself while evading the witch hunter hellbent on driving you out of town?

In Fate of Witches, you take the role of a head witch looking to building a powerful coven. The game is made up of 7 rounds (referred to as nights) with two-phase per round with a penultimate phase ending with a witches trial. In the first phase of a standard round, each player takes it in turn to either draft a witch or townsfolk from the village where they can gain Fate cards depending on whom they draft, they can cast spells on themselves or on other players!

All witches and townfolk have a value, a positive value for the witches and a negative for the townsfolk. Adding together the cards in your coven gives you the total coven value. The highest scoring coven is the winner.

The second part of the round is the event phase, where the player with the 'witches coin' (a token that moves around each round and indicates who goes first) gets to reveal two event cards from the event deck. The player with the withes coin then decided which of the events they resolve for themselves and then the remaining event is resolved by the reset of the players. A new round then begins.

At the end of the game, the coven with the highest score is declared the new high witch. However, it is never that easy, The witch hunter is out to investigate any witchcraft and with all this commotion it can only end in one thing... A witch trial!

During the witches trial, each player places either a witch or townsfolk onto the trial board and then can use their fate cards to try and save their own or gain new members by accusing others. If you and your coven survive the witches trial with the highest scoring coven you are the winner.

Fate of Witches is a quick, light strategy coven building card game with direct player interaction. It combines a fun tableau-building mechanic with ‘take that’ gameplay. It's a fast-paced game and has a climactic ending that is easy to learn.
