This medium-complexity strategy game for 2, 3, or 4 players takes about two hours to play once the rules and various cards have been mastered; when fully set up, it occupies a playing area of ​​approximately 100 x 80 cm.

Shuffle the cards—the game is ready to begin, and you must be prepared to think strategically right from the start.

The game aims to recreate the rivalries between Henry VIII, Francis I, and Charles V during their reigns — a period of intense conflict that was not solely military in nature, hence the use of a specialized game mechanic.
However, while the goal is to simulate how historical events unfolded — or might have unfolded — in the context of early 16th-century Europe, the game can be enjoyed even by those with no interest in or knowledge of history.
It is a card game — and *only* a card game; that was the challenge. There is no need for dice, tokens, markers, pencils, or notepads.
Over the course of successive rounds, each player lays out territories, colonies, artists, explorers, their sovereign, castles, armies, generals, their administration, and potential heirs; they hire mercenaries, participate in Holy Roman Empire elections, and attempt to influence the Papacy, the Turks, or the rising Protestant movement — all while potentially waging battles.
Victory is determined at the end of the final round, not incrementally.

A player's hand may vary in size. Managing this fluctuating number of cards to play them at key moments is part of the strategy.
The rulebook is relatively concise for a historical strategy game. However, the booklets are bulkier due to the inclusion of an appendix containing a catalogue that details the properties of each card.
First come the generic cards (their names are greyed out in the catalogue, and they lack Roman numerals—e.g., military and territorial cards, including "colonies," Sovereigns, state cards, early Renaissance embellishments, etc.), followed by the stratagem cards; the Roman numerals on the labels of the various stratagems depicted on the cards correspond to the entries in the explanatory catalogue. Iconographic symbols on the cards serve as memory aids.
