Cribbage is a classic point-based card game. Each player cuts the deck for deal; low card wins. In a two-player game, each player throws 2 of their 6 cards into the dealer’s “Crib”. The player who didn’t deal cuts the deck, and the dealer draws the “Cut Card”. This is the card that is shared between both players to create points with the players’ hands.

The next step in regular cribbage is the pegging round, where players use their cards to add up to 31. For example: Player one puts down a 10, and Player two puts down a 9, and so on. This round ends when all players have used all of their cards.

The player who did not deal counts their hand first. After this, the dealer counts their hand and crib, and the round ends.

The process repeats (with each player alternating dealer) until someone reaches 121 points and the game ends.

Cribbagio Mechanics

Cribbagio starts the same as cribbage, except each player draws a Peg Class card. This card is used for the duration of the game and gives the player additional ways to make points in both the pegging and counting rounds.

Whenever a player/team reaches (or is sent back to) 30, 60, and 90 points on the cribbage board, they draw one curse and one buff card. These Curse and Buff cards can only be played once a round: right after the cut card has been revealed and right before the “Pegging Phase” begins. Curse and Buff Cards are played in succession, and the dealer gets to play theirs last.

Peg Class Cards - Give players additional points for the duration of the game. For example, drawing the “Flush” peg class card will give that player the ability to make a flush out of three cards instead of four, even in your crib.
Curse Cards - Curse Cards are cards that are only used once per game and are drawn at 30, 60, and 90 points. These cards are used to limit the number of points and/or cards your opponent will have that round. For Example, One Curse Card called “Smackdown” makes it so that the opponent gets zero points from their crib that round. Players can stack Curse Cards to create insane card combos.
Buff Cards - Buff Cards are cards that are only used once a round and are drawn at 30, 60, and 90 points. These cards are meant to increase the points and/or cards that you get. For Example, one Buff Card is “Captain Peg Legs”, which doubles the points you receive from pegging during that round. Players can also stack Buff Cards to create insane card combos.
