Can you become the most successful boardgame designer this year? Can you create a masterpiece; a game so ingenious, so breathtakingly brilliant it will be played for generations to come? Can you win the admiration of your peers through brilliant design while making millions? Are you ready to do all of this through the medium of a light card game? If the answer to these questions is “Yes absolutely!” or even “Maybe, I guess, what the hell is this thing?”, then Boardgames: The Boardgame (The Card game) is the game for you!

Each turn you'll draw three idea cards - representing different game themes, mechanics and well-known tropes. You'll play two of them into one of three rows, each of which is a game you are creating. Your bottom row is a mass market cash cow found on the shelves of superstores to pay the bills. In the middle you'll make a reliable gateway to win over the hobbyists down at the game cafe and the top is your bloated masterpiece: a work to secure your place among the greats forever.

Different combinations of idea cards will make different amounts of money for you at the end of the game based on their complexity rank. But as well as clever card placement into rows you can use your development cards to further manipulate what you've drawn; changing categories, adjusting hype values and even fishing through your old brainstormed ideas for new content.

In BG:TBG(TCG) there are two ways to win. Even if you've screwed yourself commercially there's still the chance to win the award for best game by pitching one of your creations to your fellow designers. Whoever's 1 minute game pitch concept wins the most votes becomes the game's second victor.
