And March to your Front is a platoon/company level game for the battles on the North-West Frontier during the Second Afghan War, the wars in the Sudan against the Mahdists, and the war in South Africa against the Zulu nation. On one side there will be the British player who will command British units and native troops in British service, e.g., Indian troops and Gurkhas, or the Egyptian player who will control Egyptian units and their auxiliaries. On the other will be Afghans, Sudanese or Zulus known collectively as Native forces.

It is played on a tabletop with figures and model terrain. Each player commands a force of between 40 and 100 or so figures. These figures are formed into groups. The players then take turns performing action with these groups, such as moving, firing, rallying or other actions.

Each player will have a deck of 40 action cards unique to the nationality of their force and one time check card. They may also have supplementary cards that they will have access to but that are not part of their deck. (See National Decks page 56.) From this deck and supplementary cards, they will draw a hand of cards each turn. They will use these cards during their turn to have their groups perform actions by playing cards onto those groups and have them perform the indicated actions. It is important that the player announces the action the group is performing when they play the card. Also, players are encouraged, when describing a group’s action, to identify the leader directing that action. For example, “Lt Barr is ordering his men to fire on that group.”

Besides the playing of cards to perform actions, these rules approach movement in a unique way. The distance a group of figures moves is not defined in inches or centimetres. A ruler is not required to determine how far a group can move. Instead, a group will perform a move action and move from one terrain feature to another.
