3OFF is an n-in-a-row strategy game with a twist.

Most n-in-a-row games require that you line up n pieces to win. However, 3OFF requires a player be the first to remove all their tokens that are lined up 3-in-a-row to win.

Although the objective sounds simple enough, it will not be that straightforward because the game consists of 8 tokens per player, which creates a paradox of needing to remove all your tokens to ultimately win, but requiring the addition of one or more tokens to ensure it. Further, you will find that removing 3 at the wrong time ensures your opponent wins on their very next turn.

Course of Play

With white moving first, players take turns strategically adding one of their tokens to the board until all 16 squares are filled
White must then remove 3 tokens lined up vertically, horizontally, or diagonally (or lose the game—see rule 6)
Black then has the option of removing 3 lined up tokens, or, strategically moving one token already on the board, to an empty space. A token can move any number of spaces in a straight line in any direction, as long as the space travelled to is empty and not blocked (i.e., you cannot jump over tokens) by a token belonging to either player
After black's turn, white and black, on subsequent turns, must now do 1 of 3 things: (a) remove 3 lined up tokens, (b) strategically move a token to an empty space according to rule #3, or (c) if any tokens have been removed by a player, strategically add one token back to any empty space
The first player to remove their last 3 remaining lined up tokens on their turn wins
A player who is unable to perform any of the actions in step 4 at any point during the game, loses the game
