After Japan took over the rule of Taiwan in 1895, Taiwan’s landscape filled with railways serving tea farms, logging camps, sugar refineries, and mines. The sugar industry in particular became a crucible of volatility. Dozens of small operators appeared, merged, and disappeared in rapid succession. Lines were stitched into larger networks, scrapped for parts, or consolidated into more substantial corporations, reshaping the island’s economy year by year.

Players take on the role of investors and operators, launching minor companies supported by private enterprises such as Tea Farms and Sugar Refineries. These small ventures begin the game as isolated lines, but many will eventually be absorbed through compulsory company formations into larger corporations that dominate Taiwan’s rail system. Along the way, players manipulate stock values, time mergers, and position themselves to capture the greatest share of future growth.

The goal is not just to build railroads, but to turn them into leverage. Victory belongs to the player who navigates consolidation and change with foresight and opportunism, amassing the most wealth as Taiwan’s scattered lines transform into a modern rail network.
